If I ever had the chance to be a fashion designer, for sure I would have had a Black and White Collection every single season. While I love bright, appealing colours, often my choice in cloths gravitates towards the classic black and white. It’s just such a perfect combination and no doubt, it looks good on everybody. After 1980s power dressing, that emphasized bold colours, exaggerated silhouettes, clingy styles, the consumers of 1990s seemed to develop an anti fashion attitude type, narrowing it down to a softer, simplistic look and a more fainted colour palette. It was the time when the deconstructionist designers like Ann Demeulemeester, Martin Margiela, and Hussein Chalayan took an intellectual approach to fashion, dissecting cloths back to their first principles. All the collections that emerged during this period of time were characterized by quite elegance, subversive style, neutral colours (in 1995 Calvin Klein’s Fall/Winter Collection made grey fashionable), immaculate tailoring, predominant taste for white, and oversized proportions of feminine jackets. An androgynous style was born that gave the women a particular and peculiar chic, but at the same time comfortable appearance. It’s a combination of femininity and masculinity, with easy shapes and dimensional frames, designed to obscure the body beneath.
This summer I discovered the oversized jacket and I fell in love with it. Usually, I will wear my cloths pretty tight and wrapped up on my body and I always was kind of afraid of even slightly larger cloths. This oversized white jacket just goes well with a whole lot of my wardrobe and I was surprised to see how elegant and sexy it can make an entire outfit. I opted for a pair of white skater pumps that give my outfit a more casual style and an extremely comfy feel. It’s a minimalistic look with a classic hint to it.
I cannot wait to dedicate an entire post to shoes. I am reading a very interesting book about shoes and I have never imagined all the stages and eras that shoes underwent. It’s fascinating and I am eager to share with you some of the shoe stories. Until then, have an unforgettable week! Buh bye!
